The Wednesday Weekly – Issue 53 – 5 Games That Are More Than Just Games

Hi everyone, and thanks for stopping by. Did you get that reference? If so, stay classy! If not, you need to go see Anchorman. OK? We all good? Let’s go, and look at five games that are more than just that.

1) Assassin’s Creed

This series has become more than simply games now. There are eight books based on the games (and another that’s written by another author) – hang on guys, to make it clear: books are things full of words that tell a story. They’re like this blog – you read them, but they’re made of paper. Just wanted to sort that out. Anyway, Assassin’s Creed also has a few comic book series and a film now too.

2) Tomb Raider

Ah good old Lara Croft, an icon of the PlayStation. The games have been around since the mid-90s, and become more and more popular. There are books, some from the 90s and a couple (so far) in the 2010s. There are also a number of comic series from all across the years, and a couple of films too, with a new one coming out (hopefully) in 2018. Oh and there’s a road in Derby (where Tomb Raider) was created named after Lara.

3) Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell

Two weeks in a row for Sam Fisher! Tom Clancy, the ace novel writer, gave his approval to the games, and they are great. There are seven books, written by a few different authors, a comic series and talk of a film coming soon too.

4) Uncharted

Its been a while since Nathan Drake made an appearance here. The Uncharted series are one of the best I’ve ever played, and it doesn’t stop there. There is a six-part comic series (that eventually was released as a graphic novel) and a book. There’s also a film coming sometime, if all the details and actors etc. can be worked out.

5) Dishonored

Two games (so far) with two ways to play them, DLC, a comic series and a book (with two more to come) currently make up the Dishonored universe. There’s also a book that collects all the writings that can be found throughout the first game. Hopefully Bethesda don’t plan on ending this series and it’s media anytime soon.

There are five games that are more than just games. if I’ve missed your favourite, let me know!

See you next week, and keep gaming!
